From idea to the written page!
It's a must!

After assessing your strengths, determining whether conventional or self-employment is best for you, and identifying your target customers or employers (as the case may be), you are ready to write down your plan. Your plan should clearly spell out what type of work you intend to do: radio production, film scores, artist demos, industrial audio/video, etc. Your plan should include an outline of your strategy to acquire customers or to find employment.

Your plan should include documentation supporting each aspect. Accumulate letters from respectable individuals encouraging you to pursue your plan and suggesting your good chances for success. Accumulate letters offering you employment in the audio production field, even if you are pursuing self employment. If you are currently employed, accumulate letters offering you promotions conditional upon you obtaining an accessible audio production work station.

Charts:
Make telephone surveys of audio production facilities, e.g. recording studios, ad agencies, radio stations, etc. Ask how much they charge for services. Ask how much they pay for various positions, e.g. apprentice engineers, second engineers, and top talent engineers. These questions cannot generally be asked in the same phone call. Keep records of the responses you receive. Use charts to show the earnings statistics in your geographical area. Use other charts to show the prices for services offered by production facilities in your region.

Naturally, you will want to compile documentation suggesting that you have sufficient talent and expertise to do well in this industry. Letters from educators, prior customers, tutors, and professional associates will be helpful.

Once this information is compiled, you are ready to request funding.
